Ready

Tap twice to measure tempo.

Average of the most recent eight intervals.

Press T or tap the button. A gap over five seconds starts a new measurement.

How it works

Choose a tempo in beats per minute, then set the number of beats in each bar. The first beat has a higher click, and subdivisions create equally spaced pulses between beats. Press Start metronome to begin. Volume controls click level; it does not change the computer’s output volume. The highlighted circles show which numbered beat is playing. Tap a new rhythm to update the tempo without leaving the page.

Formula

A quarter-note beat lasts 60 ÷ BPM seconds. With N equal subdivisions, the time between clicks is 60 ÷ BPM ÷ N. Web Audio schedules clicks against its audio clock, using a short look-ahead window rather than relying on a visual timer.

Example

At 120 BPM there are two beats each second. A four-beat bar lasts two seconds, and two subdivisions per beat produce four clicks each second. The selected beat count changes the accent pattern, not the meaning of BPM. If the tab is hidden, audio stops. Return and press Start to continue; browser background playback is not promised.

Assumptions and limitations

Use one clear sustained note for tuning. Noise, harmonics, room acoustics and microphone quality can affect the reading. Reference tones and clicks may be picked up by the microphone; use headphones when combining tools. This is a browser practice aid, not a calibrated measurement instrument.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or an app?

No. The tools run in a modern browser. Audio starts from a button press, and the tuner needs microphone permission on HTTPS or localhost.

Is microphone audio recorded or uploaded?

No. Audio is analyzed locally in memory. It is not recorded, uploaded or played back through the speakers.

What happens when I leave the tab?

The metronome and tones stop, the microphone is released and the session timer pauses. Start again when you return.
