Chord notes

C4 · E4 · G4

Equal-tempered notes. This is a chord builder, not microphone chord recognition.

How it works

Select a root note and chord quality. The note list and piano preview update immediately; highlighted keys identify the notes in this root-position voicing. Press Play chord to hear a short synthesized example. Major, minor, diminished, augmented, suspended, sixth, seventh and added-ninth forms are included. The root starts in octave four, and intervals are added above it.

Formula

A major triad uses semitone offsets 0, 4 and 7. A minor triad uses 0, 3 and 7. Dominant seventh adds a minor seventh at offset 10, while major seventh adds offset 11. Chord intervals are calculated from the selected root.

Example

C major produces C4, E4 and G4. A minor produces A4, C5 and E5. C add9 produces C4, E4, G4 and D5. Notes use chromatic sharp spellings, so theoretical enharmonic spellings may differ: a chord tone may be shown as D♯ instead of E♭. This tool builds chords from a root and quality; it does not recognize microphone chords or supply guitar fingerings.

Assumptions and limitations

Use one clear sustained note for tuning. Noise, harmonics, room acoustics and microphone quality can affect the reading. Reference tones and clicks may be picked up by the microphone; use headphones when combining tools. This is a browser practice aid, not a calibrated measurement instrument.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or an app?

No. The tools run in a modern browser. Audio starts from a button press, and the tuner needs microphone permission on HTTPS or localhost.

Is microphone audio recorded or uploaded?

No. Audio is analyzed locally in memory. It is not recorded, uploaded or played back through the speakers.

What happens when I leave the tab?

The metronome and tones stop, the microphone is released and the session timer pauses. Start again when you return.
